On 1 August, the State Film Agency of Ukraine hosted the first meeting of the selection committee for the selection of members of the State Film Support Council
The event was held behind closed doors but was broadcast online. During the meeting, the commission voted to select 23 candidates who would be able to take part in the second round of the competition and 12 candidates who did not go further.
The press was not allowed to attend the meeting, which seriously limits the transparency of the process and undermines its credibility. Without the participation of the media and the public, it is difficult to guarantee that the selection process is conducted fairly and transparently.
The lack of openness and transparency in such important matters undermines the credibility of the selection process and the institution as a whole. When the public does not have access to information, there is a risk of non-transparent decisions, possible corruption schemes, and violation of the principles of justice.
Closed meetings create conditions for manipulation and abuse. This can lead to the election of incompetent candidates, which will negatively affect the development of the film industry in Ukraine. It also violates the right of citizens to receive reliable information about the processes taking place in government agencies.
We call on all concerned citizens, media representatives, and NGOs to advocate for transparency and openness in the activities of the State Film Agency. We demand public meetings and access to information for all stakeholders. Together we can make the selection process fair and transparent!
