New rules and opportunities for filing claims
On 16 July, the Register of Damage for Ukraine announced the opening of 12 new categories of damage claims. These include: forced internal displacement, death of a close family member, damage or destruction of non-residential real estate, etc.
In addition, the International Register of Losses announced the introduction of new rules approved by the Conference of the Register's members. The following opportunities are opening up:
now, in some categories, applications will be accepted not only from individuals but also from legal entities and the state, including regional and local authorities;
individuals and legal entities may also appoint representatives who may file claims on their behalf, which will allow, for example, parents and guardians to file claims for compensation on behalf of their minor children;
the possibility of submitting applications offline at the Administrative Service Centres located throughout Ukraine.
New application forms and rules are already available on the Register's website. According to preliminary information, in August it will be possible to submit applications for some new categories.
As a reminder, the International Register of Damage, established as part of the Compensation Mechanism to ensure fair compensation for damages caused by the aggression, opened for applications less than a year after its launch. The registry allows victims to apply for compensation quickly and efficiently, promoting transparency and accountability in the reparations process.
