Tetyana Khutor,Head of the Institute of Legislative Ideas, said in an interview on Ukrainian Radio that the discussion by EU foreign ministers is an example of how Russia will finance the war against itself with its own money
A few months ago, the prospect of receiving these funds was unclear, but now they are discussing the transfer of part of the profits from frozen assets at the end of July this year.
‘In fact, Ukraine will be able to physically feel the advantage and see what Russian money can buy,’ says Khutor. Ukraine will be able to use the funds in three areas: air defense, ammunition, and Ukrainian industry.
On 24 June, the EU foreign ministers discussed the European Commission's proposal to use the proceeds of frozen Russian assets to buy weapons for Ukraine. This initiative envisages the use of funds frozen under sanctions against Russia to support Ukraine's defense efforts in the war against Russian aggression.
