Tetyana Khutor for "Економічна правда" on how Russian money can be used and transferred to Ukraine

The total amount of Russian assets frozen abroad is estimated at approximately $300 billion. Most of them are concentrated in Belgium in the international securities depository Euroclear. Even frozen, they continue to generate income.

How can they be used to help Ukraine?

Currently, the EU is working on two ways to transfer part of the income from Russian assets to Ukraine:

- Taxation of the depositary's income with a tax on excess profits. And the movement has already begun in this direction. On 12 May 2023, the Belgian government announced the transfer of €92 million to Ukraine.

- Transfer to Ukraine all excess profits of Euroclear and other depositories from reinvestment of income from Russian assets.
