The XI Conference on Criminal Law and Procedure, organised by the Ukrainian Bar Association, was held

The event brought together legal practitioners, academics, prosecutors, judges and representatives of government agencies to discuss current challenges in the field of criminal law and procedure.

Andriy Klymosyuk, PhD in Law, project manager at the Institute of Legislative Ideas and co-author of the draft law on criminalisation of sanctions violation and circumvention, presented the relevant draft at the conference. In his speech, he stressed that, despite the 10-year-long validity of the law on sanctions in Ukraine, personal liability for their violation, including criminal liability, has not yet been established.

The participants of the event were presented with the basic concept of the new criminal article, as well as the developments of the Working Group on the introduction of the institution of granting permits for actions prohibited by the sanctions and asset declaration by sanctioned persons, which is in line with international practice.

‘Ukraine will make a huge step forward in the development of sanctions policy by introducing criminal liability for sanctions violations, moreover, we are able to make a leap by regulating the issue of permits and declaration of sanctioned assets,’ said the ILI expert.

The NGO ‘Institute of Legislative Ideas’ expresses its gratitude to the organisers of the event for the opportunity to join the professional discussion and present an important legislative initiative.
