Taras Ryabchenko, lawyer-analyst at the ILI, explains all the subtleties and problems of selling seized property in Ukraine and abroad for "Економічна правда"

First of all, despite the active work of the ARMA in managing seized assets, the process of sale requires significant improvement.

For example, the sale of one of Viktor Medvedchuk's vehicles, a Traxter buggy, brought the state over UAH 760,000. However, the sale of larger assets, such as the €200 million luxury yacht Royal Romance, faces obstacles due to international legal practice and resistance from lawyers. There are also difficulties with the sale of cultural assets, such as paintings, which have artistic and historical value.

Taras Ryabchenko emphasises that the fast and efficient sale of seized assets derived from corruption offences is critical for the state during the war. However, it is important to ensure transparency in this process, given the cases of losses from sales at reduced prices that have affected the credibility of ARMA.
