ILI project manager Andriy Klymosyuk commented live on Suspilne News on the new package of sanctions signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The conversation focused on the fact that on May 25, the president signed a decree imposing sanctions against former MP Ihor Mosiychuk, the son of former Motor Sich president Oleksandr Boguslaev, nine companies, and three Russian citizens linked to the gambling business.
Andriy Klymosyuk explained that Ukraine is working to synchronize its sanctions with those of the EU and its partners. He noted that Ukrainian sanctions impose a wide range of restrictions, from asset freezes to bans on the use of information resources such as YouTube channels and Facebook pages.
“Sanctions are a targeted tool aimed at stopping the actions of individuals who pose a threat to Ukraine's national security. In particular, asset freezing makes it impossible to finance aggression against Ukraine,” the expert stressed.
He also explained that Ukraine currently lacks an administrative mechanism for appealing sanctions through the body that imposed them, but it is possible to appeal to the courts. However, court practice regarding the lifting of sanctions needs to be improved to meet European standards. The effect of individual sanctions is positive: assets are blocked, opportunities to influence the situation in Ukraine are limited, and in some cases, assets have already been transferred to state ownership and are working for its benefit.
