Lithuanian Customs has imposed a fine of over EUR 13.6 million on a local company for non-compliance with international sanctions. This is one of the largest fines for such actions in Lithuania
The company violated the ban on the sale of vehicles imposed by EU sanctions against Russia. The deals were concluded with companies from Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Turkey to circumvent the sanctions. As a result, customs officers confiscated six truck semi-trailers intended for illegal export.
This is not the first case of sanctions violation in Lithuania after the customs control was tightened.
According to a recently adopted amendment to Lithuanian legislation, fines and proceeds from confiscated property for non-compliance with sanctions will be used to rebuild Ukraine through the Cooperation Development Fund.
Ukraine is also stepping up its fight against sanctions violations, including the draft law on criminalization of sanctions violations and circumvention, which will soon be registered in the Parliament.
We will monitor further developments and keep you informed of new cases of sanctions violations and measures taken to prevent them.
