The Head of the ILI, Tetiana Khutor, spoke on the air of Ukrainian Radio about the situation with the confiscation of Russian assets in Ukraine and the world

‘The situation is better now than a year ago. But it still leaves much to be desired. Since the beginning of the war, the Institute of Legislative Ideas has been researching how Russian assets are being confiscated in Ukraine and around the world... As of now, almost a billion dollars of these assets have been confiscated around the world. And Ukraine is the leader in this,’ said Tetyana Khutor.

She noted that Ukraine has two tools to achieve this goal:

1) a special law that allows Ukraine to seize Russian assets to compensate for losses (the assets of two Russian banks worth UAH 17 billion have already been transferred to the state budget)

2) confiscation by the decision of the High Anti-Corruption Court through the filing of lawsuits by the Ministry of Justice

"There are some interesting characters among these cases. For example, Yanukovych. His assets were also subject to such confiscation... Among other things, Mezhyhirya, Sukholuchia, assets belonging to Yanukovych's son were taken from him,"said Khutor.

According to her, a ‘tidbit’ of Russian assets is located abroad.

‘Many countries are in no hurry to block all Russian assets... For example, in the UK some huge estates and castles still belong to Russia, companies with Russian shares, and Russians themselves,’ said Khutor.

She said that the best situation with the confiscation of Russian money is in Canada, which has already adopted the relevant legislation. The US has also already confiscated $5.5 million from oligarch Malofeev for evading sanctions.
