Tetyana Khutor, Head of the Institute of Legislative Ideas, spoke about the confiscation of Russian assets for the only independent Belarusian media outlet BELSAT
First of all. Don't be shocked why Tetyana Khutor, the head of the Institute of Legislative Ideas, is commenting in Russian. This is a necessary step, as the conversation was broadcast on the air of the only independent Belarusian media outlet, Belsat. This is a Belarusian-language TV channel created on the initiative and with the support of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and public Polish television on April 23, 2007.
Secondly. You must understand that back in the spring the issue of confiscation of Russian assets was something unimaginable. Today, this issue is being discussed seriously. And journalists are already interested in HOW we will dispose of the confiscated assets. As a reminder, we are talking about $311 billion of Russian state assets and about $100 billion of private assets.
Thirdly. A small survey of journalists showed that Ukrainians themselves would prefer to spend money on weapons, and only then on rebuilding Ukraine.
As a reminder, the Institute of Legislative Ideas presented a new analytical study “Confiscation of Assets of Persons Responsible for the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine”. The introduction of such confiscation can become a deterrent mechanism that can prevent further wars in the world. First of all, because supporting such decisions can lead to the loss of all assets. At the same time, such confiscation must be legally impeccable and in line with international human rights practice, so that Russian aggressors and their accomplices cannot win back the confiscated property in courts.
