Category ‘Disappearance of a close family member’
Thousands of Ukrainian families have lost contact with their loved ones who went missing due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Unfortunately, since the outbreak of the war, many people have found themselves in the war zone orthe temporarily occupied territories and their fate remains unknown. Since the beginning of the invasion, more than 55,000 people have gone missing.
Those who have experienced the disappearance of a loved one can apply the International Register of Losses. It can be filed by parents, children, spouses, or civil partners of the missing person, as well as other family members who had close relationships with the person.
The category ‘Missing person’ allows you to record deep emotional experiences related to the disappearance of a loved one. Material consequences are considered separately in other categories.
Although no compensation payments have been made yet, applying to the Register is an important first step towards acknowledging the loss and receiving compensation in the future. The ILI has developed detailed guidelines to help families navigate this complex process and submit their applications.
