Destroyed playgrounds, a university, museums, residential buildings... And most importantly, the lives of civilians that no one can bring back. This is only a small part of the atrocities and terror of the Russian Federation in our cities and villages...

Why, then, are the countries of the world in no hurry to recognise Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism? Among the risks are hunger, severance of diplomatic relations, reduction of funds that could be used to restore Ukraine...

The United States has recognised North Korea, Syria, Iran and Cuba as state sponsors of terrorism. Canada has given this status to Iran and Syria since 2012.

Recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism could have an extraordinary economic effect. In particular, the United States applies appropriate restrictions to states with this status:

  • deprivation of foreign aid from the United States;
  • prohibition of exports of defence products;
  • control over the export of dual-use goods;
  • strengthening financial monitoring of counterparties, etc.

But all of this can be minimised. How can this be done? And what are the pitfalls of granting Russia this status? All this and more was told by the Chairwoman of  the ILI Tetiana Khutor on the air of Hromadske Interactive Television
