Dear friends, we continue to follow how Ukraine and the world are trying to make the aggressor pay for the war
Here is our selection of the most significant events of this week:
- Council of Europe. The Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe agreed to create a register of damages from Russian aggression as a first step towards an international compensation mechanism. This decision was supported by 46 member states of the organization.
- The assets of Russian politician Tsekovwere partially confiscated in Ukraine. A 95.7 m² apartment in Crimea, a 21.7 m² garage, a 1/2 part of a 57.3 m² residential building with outbuildings, and a 58 m² residential building with outbuildings in Simferopol were confiscated for Ukraine's revenue. Sergey Tsekov is a former Ukrainian and later Russian politician. He is the first member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation from the Crimean authorities since 24 September 2014. Due to the occupation of Crimea, he was included in the European Union's sanctions list of persons whose assets are frozen in the EU and for whom visa restrictions have been imposed.
- The HACCU also upheld all the claims of the Ministry of Justice regarding the confiscation of the assets of collaborator Volodymyr Saldo. Several land plots, a hotel building, non-residential buildings, 3 apartments, a flat, and a car were seized from him. The HACC also confiscated a quarry in the Zhytomyr region (99.86% of Kashtan PrJSC) and a stake in a transport company (30% of Delta Service PrJSC). In addition, the court seized his daughter's assets, which were not confiscated in the first instance decision.
- Belgium transferred EUR 92 million to Ukraine. These funds were received from tax revenues from Russian financial assets frozen in Belgium. Half of the amount, €46 million, is earmarked for new military aid, including armored vehicles, weapons, and ammunition. It is expected to be delivered as soon as possible. Another €46 million will be used to support the people of Ukraine and strengthen the Belgian diplomatic presence.
