This is the solution to low salaries and staff shortages in the police proposed by MPs as an alternative to the government's draft law No. 6450.

The alternative draft law 6450-1 proposes to allow police officers to work part-time, including protecting private property and individuals. This idea contains corruption risks:

  • Conflict of interest, for example, when a police officer has to prosecute the person he or she is protecting;
  • Use of hired labour of police officers for ‘protection’ and protection of business

The ILI calls on MPs not to adopt this draft law without finalising it and eliminating the identified shortcomings
