Starting from 1 July, the exemption from value added tax, excise tax and import duties, which, in particular, applied to the import of cars, motorcycles and vehicles for the carriage of goods, will be cancelled.

The IWI analyst Taras Ryabchenko spoke about all this on the air of the Ukrainian Radio.

"In the explanatory note to the law that cancelled the privileges, one of the reasons for the cancellation is the lack of funds to the state budget. However, if this benefit had not been in place, it is not certain that such a number of cars - we are talking about about 120,000 cars in 3 months - would have been imported. Therefore, it is not entirely correct to say that all the funds that are not received for the import of cars immediately go to the budget's disadvantage. Also, given the fact that the imported cars were immediately taken to service stations, while others were used for petrol, the state still received revenues from them," said Taras Ryabchenko.

At the same time, according to the expert, there is another reason why the benefits were cancelled early:

"Along with cheap cars, they started importing expensive cars. The authors of the note note that there are numerous cases of importation of luxury cars worth more than UAH 1-2 million."
