Tetiana Khutor, Chair of the Institute of Legislative Ideas, spoke on the air of Pryamyi TV channel about legislative regulation, rhetoric and prospects for granting Russia the status of a state sponsor of terrorism

Russia continues to destroy critical infrastructure, destroy playgrounds, universities, residential buildings... And most importantly, it kills innocent Ukrainians.

Why, then, do the United States and other countries not designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism? The risks include famine, severance of diplomatic relations, and a reduction in funds that could be used to rebuild Ukraine...

The United States has recognised North Korea, Syria, Iran and Cuba as state sponsors of terrorism. Canada has given this status to Iran and Syria since 2012.

Recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism could have an extraordinary economic effect. In particular, the United States applies appropriate restrictions to states with this status:

  • deprivation of foreign aid from the United States;
  • prohibition of exports of defence products;
  • control over the export of dual-use goods;
  • strengthening financial monitoring of counterparties, etc.

But Ukraine will certainly benefit from this decision.
