Yesterday, on 18 July, the Institute of Legislative Ideas inpartnership with the Ministry of Justice Ukraine successfully presented the draft law on criminalization of sanctions violation and circumvention.

The event brought together numerous representatives of the authorities, the public, and experts to discuss key aspects of the legislative initiative.

During the roundtable, the draft amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine ‘On Sanctions’ developed by the working group were presented. The aim of this initiative is to establish liability for violations of the sanctions regime and create effective mechanisms to combat sanctions circumvention. The participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the proposed amendments to the legislation, and experts of the Institute of Legislative Ideas Tetyana Khutor, Andriy Klymosiuk, and Mykola Rubashchenko explained in detail the necessity and expected results of these changes.

An active discussion ensued, during which representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General'sOffice, the National Bank of Ukraine, the Office of the President of Ukraine, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, ministries and other government agencies, as well as leading lawyers, expressed their opinions and suggestions. An important stage was the involvement of representatives from various sectors, including the academic community represented by Mykola Khavroniuk, which allowed for a wide range of points of view to be taken into account. The event demonstrated high interest and support for the importance ofcriminalizing violations and circumventing sanctions among the participants. This is an important step towards ensuring legal accountability, and justice and enhancing the effectiveness of the state's sanctions policy.

The ILI and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine would like to thank the members of the working group and everyone who joined the discussion and supported the initiative. The next step is to finalize the draft law and register it with the Verkhovna Rada.
