Recent decisions by the Ukrainian State Film Agency raise serious doubts about the fairness and transparency of the selection process for members of the State Film Support Council
Of particular concern is the fact that the Council includes individuals directly involved in projects applying for state funding.
This creates an obvious conflict of interest: those who are supposed to decide how to allocate budget funds may themselves benefit from these decisions. This situation calls into question the effectiveness and fairness of the distribution of public resources, especially as many recognized and deserving filmmakers have been left without support.
We hope that the relevant projects to which the Council members are related will not be considered at the stage of decision-making on the provision of state support or will be removed from consideration to avoid any conflicts of interest and ensure transparency and impartiality in the decision-making process.
What can we do? We call on film industry representatives, journalists, and the public to demand more transparency and openness in the work of the Ukrainian State Film Agency. Only together can we achieve a fair distribution of public funds and support the real development of Ukrainian cinema.
