The UK wants to follow Canada's example and confiscate Russian assets to transfer them to Ukraine
This was announced by Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, The Guardian reports.
"I support this concept. We are looking at it very carefully. The Canadians have actually just passed a law. This is an issue we are working on with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Finance, but I certainly agree with the concept,"Truss said.
According to Slovo i Dilo, the seized funds can be transferred either to individuals as reparations or to the Ukrainian state.
As a reminder, amendments to the law that provides for the possibility of confiscating assets that have been sanctioned due to Russia's war and using them to support Ukraine have come into force in Canada.
