The European Union is preparing a legal framework for the transfer of frozen Russian assets, including those owned by oligarchs, to help rebuild Ukraine after the war.
This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Interfax-Ukraine reports .
‘We are working on a legal basis to make sure that the assets of Russia and partly (Russian) oligarchs can serve the restoration of Ukraine,’ von der Leyen said.
According to her, the EU has never done such a recovery. It is necessary to use the best means for this purpose.
She noted that no legal possibility of using Russian assets should be excluded.
As a reminder, amendments to the law that provides for the possibility of confiscating assets that have been sanctioned because of Russia's war and using them to support Ukraine have come into force in Canada.
