On 27 December, the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) held the first constituent meeting of the Interagency Working Group (IWG) on implementing the Asset Recovery Strategy for 2023-2025
The meeting was held online and chaired by the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
The meeting considered including anti-corruption NGOs in the IWG based on their requests. To ensure its transparent and open activities, the Institute of Legislative Ideas became one of the new members of the working group. Transparency International Ukraine and Legal Partnership of Ukraine also joined the group.
The Head of ARMA, Olena Duma, noted that the involvement of civil society organizations is a crucial step for effective asset recovery, and constructive cooperation with the public will help to increase the transparency of the IWG's work. The IWG currently includes the leadership of many government agencies, such as NABU, ARMA, the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Ministry of Justice, the State Financial Monitoring Service, the Bureau of Economic Security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Bureau of Investigation, the State Border Guard Service and the State Customs Service.
The involvement of the Institute of Legislative Ideas in the interagency working group will facilitate the development and implementation of effective legislative initiatives aimed at returning illegally withdrawn funds to the state budget.
