‼️Конфіскація of the aggressor's assets: ILI presented research results to the EU
The Institute of Legislative Ideas presented the results of research on ways to confiscate assets of Russia and Russians, taking into account the best international practices of confiscation without a court conviction, to the EU sanctions working group (Freeze and Seize).
The EU is currently working on new legislation on confiscation of Russian assets. Therefore, we have presented ways to resolve legal obstacles based on international confiscation standards, the experience of Ukraine and Canada. In a nutshell, it is a quick civil process on transparent grounds instead of a long criminal proceeding, but with guarantees of the defendant's procedural rights. This will allow us to promptly direct funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine from those who contributed to this war.
Confiscation of Russian assets has two main goals:
- Stopping the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine
- Creating a financial basis for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction and compensation for damages
