ILI Chairwoman on Hromadske Radio about Uraine`s key commitments after signing the Transparency Pledge
Ukraine’s accession to the UNCAC Review Transparency Pledge obliges public authorities responsible for the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption to involve civil society in reporting on the status of its implementation. This was stated by Tetiana Khutor, ILI Chairwoman, on the broadcast of Hromadske Radio.
The expert added that the document requires the state not to withhold information and to publish data related to anti-corruption reporting, as well as to involve non-governmental organizations in external evaluation activities of Ukraine’s anti-corruption reforms conducted by other countries.
“Ukraine’s commitment to involve civil society as an independent and impartial actor is a positive signal that demonstrates the state’s openness. Civil society plays a key role in anti-corruption reforms. In countries with a sufficiently developed level of democracy, this process is more effective,” Tetiana Khutor noted.
She also said that the ILI has many years of experience cooperating with the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), which has made it possible to build constructive relations in the assessment and monitoring of the UN Convention against Corruption. In particular, an open monitoring platform was created where civil society reports on the status of Ukraine’s implementation of its anti-corruption commitments are published.
“Soon, the NACP will publish its data on this platform, which will make it possible to compare the assessments of implemented reforms by civil society and the state,” ILI Chairwoman reported.
