Andriy Klymosyuk: “Ukraine has a unique opportunity to cleanse its economy of Russian capital”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has enacted another decision by the National Security and Defense Council imposing sanctions on 76 individuals and over 80 companies. The focus is on figures whose activities pose a threat to national security.
Commenting on this decision on Suspilne TV, Andriy Klymosyuk, project manager at the Institute of Legislative Ideas and candidate of legal sciences, emphasized that one of the most effective areas of sanctions policy remains the seizure of assets in favor of the state through the High Anti-Corruption Court.
“This sanction is effective because it allows us to cleanse the Ukrainian economy of Russian capital, which has long penetrated key sectors. We have a unique opportunity to get rid of the enemy's dirty money,” the expert said.
According to Klymosyuk, more than 50 lawsuits filed by the Ministry of Justice have already been satisfied, and assets have been seized in high-profile cases, including the Ocean Plaza shopping center and a number of mining companies.
At the same time, the expert drew attention to the need for legislative regulation of personal liability for evading sanctions, as well as the lack of a full-fledged mechanism for administrative and judicial appeal of sanctions, unlike the practice in EU countries.
