ILI Chair spoke about risks of adopting the draft law, which criminalizes the cicrumvention of sanctions, in its current form

The Verkhovna Rada is soon expected to hold a second reading of Draft Law No. 12406, which establishes criminal liability for violations and circumvention of sanctions.

At present, the draft law contains a number of harmful amendments that have significantly weakened it and created loopholes for avoiding sanctions. At the same time, constructive proposals aimed at protecting Ukraine from costly compensation claims in potential lawsuits over possible human rights violations were not supported.

ILI Chair Tetiana Khutor, speaking on Ukrainian Radio, explained how the adoption of an underdeveloped draft law could affect Ukraine’s cooperation with the EU, the United States, and other partners in the sanctions coalition.
