Tetyana Khutor spoke on Espresso about the chances of Timur Mindich being extradited to Ukraine
Israel can extradite Tymur Mindich to Ukraine only if the United States intervenes, as the country almost never extradites its own citizens. Tetiana Khutor, head of the Institute of Legislative Ideas, said this live on Espreso TV.
«We may have real hopes for Mindich's extradition to Ukraine, but only if the Americans intervene, because Israel really does not extradite its citizens. Moreover, even if Mindich travelled to another jurisdiction, a European one – for example, Austria – this would also become extremely problematic, because overall extradition to Ukraine, especially during the war, is exceedingly difficult»,– the head of ILI explained.
Tetiana Khutor also added that Israel generally does not extradite its citizens. By the way, Ukraine also does not extradite its own citizens – and many other countries do not either.
«But in this case, the relevant U.S. authorities have taken interest. And we know that the United States can be very persuasive, especially in jurisdictions friendly to them. Therefore, if there is political will – and, as we can see, most likely there will be – we have a good chance of seeing Mindich extradited. But it is very important that life in Ukraine should not be more comfortable for him than in Israel», – the expert emphasized.
